Department of Transport results for 2005 show that the number of motorcyclists killed decreased by 3 per cent compared to 2004. Despite this welcome drop in casualty figures, motorcycles last year represented 1% of road traffic but accounted for 18% of all fatalities.
Motorcycle casualty figures remain high and with 569 motorcyclists killed and 5,939 motorcyclists seriously injured last year, there is no room for complacency.
